Venus Ebony Starr Williams (born June 17, 1980) is an American professional tennis player who is currently ranked World No. 2. She has been ranked World No. 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association on three separate occasions. She became the World No. 1 for the first time on February 25, 2002.

She turned professional in 1999 and had her breakthrough year in 2002, when she won her first Tier I tournament and ended the year in the top ten. She is currently coached by Albert Portas.[2] Her WTA Tour mentor in the Partners for Success program was Martina Navratilova, who was her doubles partner for a brief period in early 2005. As of May 25, 2009, Hantuchová is ranked World No. 33 in singles.
